Likely causes for a blocked laundry sink is foreign debris restricting flow. This debris could come from the washing machine once it has been discharged in the the same drain it shares with the sink or from dumping a mop bucket inside. Drain machines clear the blockage by pulling the debris back on the cable or breaking it up where it can safely flow into a bigger drain.

Any sign of water coming up a drain in the basement whether it be from a floor drain or basement bathroom is a clear indicator of an issue with the underground piping in your house. To tackle these issues a camera inspection is first required in order to identify the cause of the issue. Large drain machines can then be used to attempt to clear the blockage but in many cases a corroded / collapsed pipe or tree roots will require excavation to correct properly.

A water meter is city property and if a leak is coming from the device itself, the city water utility (311 Toronto) should be contacted. But leaks around the unit can be repaired by a plumber. The main shut off valve to your house is located at the floor where the water service first enters your house above ground in the basement, also located below the water meter. This valve is the most important valve in the house as it can be turned off to shut the water in an emergency and needs to be functional to conduct any other water piping repairs in the house.
